THE BEAUTY OF AGING AND THE ETHICS OF MATERIALS
For Marianne, sustainability also means understanding how materials age. Synthetic textiles, derived from petroleum, are nearly indestructible - an environmental burden.
Natural fabrics, by contrast, are biodegradable and gain character over time. When dyed naturally, they can be repaired and mended beautifully, rather than discarded. This belief underpins her rejection of recycled synthetics, whose aging behavior she finds unpredictable and visually unrefined.
Durability is measured through testing, including Martindale abrasion ratings, ensuring each fabric is used where it performs best.
