RESTORING
THE PAST WITH
RESPECT
AND POETRY

Her projects often involve historical materials, requiring a blend of restoration expertise and artistic sensitivity. Working with specialized restorers, Marianne assesses each antique textile individually, its condition, fragility, and potential. Some pieces are restored, others reinterpreted. A damaged 17th-century tapestry fragment, for instance, may become a centerpiece detail framed against a new background.
She often draws from Japanese restoration philosophies that embrace imperfection, allowing wear and age to become part of a piece’s poetry. Fragile textiles are reinforced using fine backing techniques, while others are carefully cleaned by specialists without chemicals, preserving their patina and authenticity.
